Probate Court

Some Probate Court records may be useful in researching genealogy.  Most Probate Court records are public records available for inspection.  Most older Probate records (closed more than 10 years ago) are maintained on microfilm.  It is necessary first to identify which file is needed (usually under the name of the deceased individual) and then the microfilm roll can be pulled.   If you are interested in looking at microfilm it is helpful for you to call ahead and make sure that staff will be able to assist you in locating the microfilm and instructing you on the use of the microfilm reader. A specific list of files is also helpful, and we would be happy to schedule a time for you to come in.

Unfortunately the staff of the Probate Court is not able to research files for you.  It is necessary for the files to be inspected by someone other than a court employee. Paper copies of records may be obtained at a cost of $2 per page.
