Kent County prepares an Environmental Review Record (coming soon!) as part of our commitment to examine all of the proposed projects prior to publication. This record is available to review Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Kent County Community Development Department, 82 Ionia Ave. NW, Suite 390, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
Each year the Kent County Community Development Department holds an application round for Community Development Block Grant funding. To ensure projects that include construction and rehabilitation will not cause harm to the natural or physical environment we conduct an Environmental Review. The results are included in the combined Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact/Request for Release of Funds (FONSI/RROF) (coming soon!).
The County of Kent is a Community Development Block Grant Urban County and receives an annual entitlement grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In order to receive its annual CDBG grant, the County must prepare and submit a Five Year Consolidated Strategic Plan and an annual Action Plan in accordance with federal regulations. According to Title 24 Housing and Urban Development, Part 91, Consolidated Submissions for Community Development Programs, SubpartA, the overall goal of the community planning and development programs…is to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and expanding economic opportunities principally for low- and moderate-income persons. The primary means towards this end is to extend and strengthen partnerships among all levels of government and the private sector, including for-profit and non-profit organizations, in the production and operation of affordable housing.
