Recycling & Education Center Photo Tour

The Kent County Recycling & Education Center opened in 2010, replacing an aging dual-stream recycling center. Trucks full of recyclables pull onto the scale to be weighed. Once weighed in, the trucks back into the building to dump the recyclables onto the tipping floor. The front end loader scoops up a pile of recyclables
and dumps it into the hopper.
A series of conveyor belts move recyclables through
the building to be sorted.
Cages store plastic bottles until enough are sorted to send to the baler. The baler compresses the sorted recyclables into one-ton bales and wraps them in steel wire. Once sorted and baled, the recyclables are stored in the building until enough can be loaded for transport. Tractor trailers haul baled recyclables to other facilities
where they will be made into new products.
