Mario Lopez is recognized as the Kent County Quality Service Employee of the 3rd Quarter for helping to fulfill Kent County's mission by providing superior customer service to the staff at the Kent County Department of Public Works Recycling Education Center. The individual who nominated Mario stated
"I observed Mr. Lopez take decisive in controlling a fire at the Recycling and Education Center. Some type of chemical ignited in the recyclable material pile. This pile had over 100 tons of materials. Mr. Lopez recognized the problem and without hesitation removed the ignited material with a frontend loader to a location outside the building. His quick thinking and action protected county property and the safety of others. Further, Mr. Lopez notified his fellow employees to assist him in extinguishing the fire. Though Mr. Lopez is modest his actions should be recognized."

"Abraham Lincoln once said: 'With public trust we can do anything. Without it we can do nothing.' It is in that light that I view public service -- especially at the local level -- as the most honorable of callings."
