2016 Award Recipients

Purpose

The Kent County Health Department’s Food Safety Award is to recognize food service establishments that have exhibited a high degree of safe food handling practices and sanitation.  Those facilities awarded have maintained outstanding food safety practices throughout the licensing year. This excellence in food safety helps safeguard the public from the risk of foodborne illness.

Establishment Classifications Food service establishments are grouped into three classifications based upon the complexity of the food preparation within the facility.

  1. Class X establishments have very limited food service such as a snack bar or a coffee shop with no sandwiches.
  2. Class Y establishments conduct “cook and serve” food service such as fast food facilities, cafeterias, sandwich shops, and bars that offer food.
  3. Class Z establishments conduct complex food preparation methods that typically involve a cook, cool down and reheating of the food.  These types are often sit down full service establishments.
