The Kent County Police Cadet Program was established in 1973. The program is a great entry-level position for those interested in a career in law enforcement or corrections. It allows students to gain valuable experience and insight into the Sheriff's Office role within the criminal justice community.

Cadets are paid, part-time employees. The pay rate is $15.00/hour with set annual increases. Cadets can also apply for a yearly academic scholarship worth up to $2,500.

Cadets are responsible for various duties within the Sheriff's Office, Correctional Facility, Courthouse, other county buildings. Assignments may include assisting with gun registries, walk-in report taking, property management, vehicle impound management, inmate visitation, jail central control, assisting with public events, and more.

Cadets are uniformed but non-sworn employees. Positions offer opportunities for road patrol ride-alongs.

An applicant must be enrolled in an accredited college to be eligible. Work schedules are tailored around the student's class schedule and may include up to 28 hours a week.

County Police Cadet employment opportunities will be posted in the Employment Opportunities section of accessKent .
